This cell combines a Nissei molding machine with a “double-wing” (DW) version of Yushin’s new RCII-class robot. This and other DW robots essentially team two robot units working independently on one common beam. They are ideal for complex molding operations such as the one filmed here. Unit 1 extracts lenses from the mold, presents them to a gate-cutting station which separates the parts, then releases part 1 and (after a quick rotation) part 2 to the precision lens cutting system. Finally, Unit 1 releases the runner and moves back to its wait position. Unit 2 removes both lenses from the precision cutter and packs them into a transportation bin. The robot uses a built-in casing function to fill the trays as efficiently as possible. When a tray is filled, Unit 2 automatically swaps its part-pick tool for a tray-pick tool (using Yushin’s new quick-change tool system), then proceeds to place the full tray on the upper conveyor. Ordinarily, this application would require 2 separate robots, but a single DW robot does the job while being considerably more compact and inexpensive.
